Pacific Oceania at the 2000 Davis Cup

Introduction

The 2000 Davis Cup was in its 89th edition. As it was also an important event in the men’s tennis tournament like the previous ones. The pressure and the Excitement levels of the fans were high at the same time and so were the preparations of the players for the Davis Cup tournament. This Davis cup registered a huge participation of 135 nations from all over the globe. Spain won their first Davis Cup title on this occasion by defeating Australia on December 8-10. They registered their names in the pages of Davis Cup records at the Palau Sant Jordi located in Barcelona, Spain.

 
Pacific Oceania at the 2000 Davis Cup was placed in the Group III of the Asia/ Oceanic zone. Pacific Oceania played their first Davis Cup tournament in the Year 1995. The team of Pacific Oceania consists of players from associate member islands in Oceania excluding Australia and New Zealand.

Countries at the 2000 Davis Cup

Eight countries participated in the Group III of the Asia / Oceania zone. The names of the countries that participated in this group were Bangladesh, Kuwait, Pacific Oceania, Qatar, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Syria and Tajikistan. Among the above mentioned countries Kuwait and Syria were advanced to the Group II for the next year’s Davis Cup owing to their satisfactory performances whereas Bangladesh and Pacific Oceania did not perform very well and thus they were relegated to Group IV for the next year’s Davis Cup tournament.

he performance of Pacific Oceania at the 2000 Davis Cup Tournament is represented as follows Pacific Oceania played their first round robin match against Qatar on February 9. They were terribly defeated with a score of 0-3. Pacific Oceania played their second Round Robin match against Bangladesh on February 10. They were also defeated on this occasion with a score of 1-2. Pacific Oceania played their third round robin match against Kuwait on February 11.

TThey lost this match with the same score of 1-2. Pacific Oceania played their first round match against Tajikistan on February 12. They were defeated again on this occasion with a score of 0-2. Pacific Oceania played their final match against Bangladesh on February 13. They even lost the finals with a score of 1-2. All the above matches were hosted by Sri Lanka and they were all played on the Clay-Outdoor Surface.

Hence the performance of Pacific Oceania at the 2000 Davis Cup tournament was very poor.
