Group I and Group II played knockout tournaments. Group III and IV played round-robin tournaments with promotion and relegation. The final was played from 8th to 10th December at Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Spain. Norway at the 2000 Davis Cup was placed in Group II of Euro/African Zone. Countries at the 2000 Davis Cup
Tennis became popular among the players. Many players from different countries were eager to take part in this prestigious tournament. The countries that participated in Group II of Euro/African Zone were Bulgaria, Cote D’lvoire, Croatia, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Slovenia and Turkey.
Participation and Performance of Norway in the 2000 Davis Cup
The 1st round matches were played from 28th to 30th April 2000. Norway at the 2000 Davis Cup played the matches against Israel in the first round at Oslo, Norway. Norway’s Christian Ruud defeated Israel’s Eyal Ran by 6-2, 6-2 and 7-5. Israel’s Harel Levy defeated Norway’s Jan-Frode Andersen by 7-6, 6-3 and 6-4. Norway’s pair, Christian Ruud and Helge Koll-Fraf Jord defeated Israel’s Noam Behr and Andy Ram by 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 and 7-6. Israel’s Harel Levy defeated Christian Ruud by 4-6, 7-6, 6-2, 6-7 and 6-1. Jan-Frode Andersen defeated Andy Ram by 6-4, 6-1 and 7-5. Norway won 3 matches. They forwarded to the 2nd round. Norway played the matches against Greece from 21st to 23rd July at Athens, Greece.
