Group I and Group II played knockout tournaments. Group III and IV played round-robin tournaments with promotion and relegation. The final was played from 8th to 10th December at Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Spain. Monaco at the 2000 Davis Cup was placed in Group III of Euro/African Zone. Countries at the 2000 Davis Cup
The matches in Group III of Europe/Africa Zone were played in two venues. The countries that played the matches in Venue 1 were Monaco, Botswana, Georgia, Malta, Togo, Tunisia, Yugoslavia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Following countries played the matches at Venue 2: Nigeria, Armenia, Benin, Iceland, Macedonia, Madagascar, Moldova and Senegal.
Participation and Performance of Monaco in the 2000 Davis Cup
The matches in the round robin were played from 24th to 26th May 2000. Monaco at the 2000 Davis Cup played the first set of matches against Yugoslavia at Tennis Club de Tunis, Tunisia. They were defeated by Yugoslavia in all three matches. The matches between Monaco and Tunisia were played on 25th May. Monaco’s players showed determinant game. They won all three matches. Monaco played the matches against Botswana on 26th May. Monaco defeated Botswana in 2 matches. Monaco qualified for the 1st round. Monaco played against Bosnia/Herzegovina in the first round on 27th May. Monaco’s E. Heussner defeated H. Basalic from Bosnia/Herzegovina by 3-6, 6-0 and 8-6. M. Zahirovic from Bosnia/Herzegovina defeated Monaco’s C. Bosio by 3-6, 6-1 and 6-3.
