Introduction

The 89th edition of the Davis Cup was the 2000 Davis Cup. The team that represented the Republic of India at the 2000 Davis Cup was known as the India Davis Cup Team and it was governed by the All India Tennis Association Tennis Association. The team competed in the Asia Oceania Group one.
This team first participated in the Davis Cup in the year 1921.

Countries at the 2000 Davis Cup

India at the 2000 Davis Cup played in the Europe Africa Zone Group Three. India competed against China, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Thailand and Uzbekistan. In this group India and Uzbekistan advanced to the world group.

Performance of India at the 2000 Davis Cup

India played its first match against Lebanon. The match lasted from fourth to sixth of February. The matches took place at the Oudh Gymkhana Club, Lucknow, India. The match took place on outdoor Grass court. Leander Paes of India defeated A. Hamadeh of Lebanon. F. Syed of India defeated J. Zaatini of Lebanon. India defeated Lebanon by the score 3-2.

The second match played by India at the 2000 Davis Cup was against the Republic of Korea. The match took place at the Khnna Stadium, New Delhi. The match lasted for two days and was held from 7th of April to 9th of April. The match took place on an outdoors grass court. The type of the ball that was used was a cosco championship ball. In this match India defeated the Republic of Korea by the score 4-1. Leander Paes of India defeated Y.Yoon of Republic of Korea and H. Lee of the Republic of Korea defeated F. Syed of India.

Due the victories at the Asia/ Oceania Zone India advanced to the World Group. At the world group India face Sweden. The world qualifying rounds of the year 2000 took place from 21st July to 23rd July 2000. The matches took place at the Tennis Stadium, Bastad, Sweden. The type of court on which the matches were played was red clay outdoors court. India could not match the might of Sweden. Sweden defeated India by the score 5-0.
