Introduction

Davis cup is largest international team event in men’s tennis. Davis cup is run by international tennis federation and is contested between the teams of competing countries in the knock out format. Every year, 16 countries compete for Davis cup as a part of elite world group and the other nations are divided in regional zones which are further divided into four groups.The 2000 Davis Cup was the 89th edition of the tournament, 16 teams competed in the World Group and the total was 135 teams including other groups. Out of these 58 were in the Europe Zone, 30 in the Asia Zone and 30 in the American Zone.

 
Great Britain at the 2000 Davis Cup took part in World group. 5th to 6th February saw the first round matches while the final took place from 8th to 10th December at the Palau Sant Jordi stadium, Barcelona, Spain. The First round matches were held from the 4th of February to the 6th of February. The first set of matches at the Davis Cup that Great Britain played was against Czech Republic. These games were held in the Zimni Stadium, Ostrava, Czech Republic. Great Britain’s players tried their best but out of the total 5 matches that Great Britain played against Czech Republic, 4 were won by the Czech Republic’s players while only 1 was won by the Great Britain’s players. Great Britain’s players faced the talented players from Ecuador in the match played at A.E.L.T.C (court1) Wimbledon, GBR on 14th July 2000. The rivals from Ecuador proved to be more experienced than the Great Britain’s players. Here Great Britain was defeated by Ecuador in 3 out of 5 events.
