Germany at the 2000 Davis Cup

Introduction

Davis cup is largest international team event in men’s tennis. Davis cup is run by international tennis federation and is contested between the teams of competing countries in the knock out format. Every year, 16 countries compete for Davis cup as a part of elite world group and the other nations are divided in regional zones which are further divided into four groups.The 2000 Davis Cup was the 89th edition of the tournament, 16 teams competed in the World Group and the total was 135 teams including other groups. Out of these 58 were in the Europe Zone, 30 in the Asia Zone and 30 in the American Zone.

 
Germany at the 2000 Davis Cup took part in World group. 5th to 6th February saw the first round matches while the final took place from 8th to 10th December at the Palau Sant Jordi stadium, Barcelona, Spain. Germany at the 2000 Davis Cup was included in the world group. The team of Germany at the Cup was as follows:

The First round matches were held from the 4th of February to the 6th of February. The first set of matches at the Davis Cup that Germany played was against Netherlands. These games were held in the Messe Hall, Leipzig, Germany. Germany’s players put their best and gave a tough fight to the players from Netherlands. Out of the total 5 matches that Germany played against Netherlands, 4 were won by the Germany’s players while only 1 was won by Netherlands players. Thus, Germany successfully advanced to the Quarterfinal matches of the tournament which were held from 7th to the 9rth April at Memorial drive, North Adelaide, Adelaide. In this round Australia defeated Germany in 3 events out of total 5, so Germany was unlucky this time.
