In the 2000 Davis Cup total of 135 nations had participated. The zones were Americas Zone, Asia/Oceania Zone and Europe/Africa Zone. The World Group consisted of a four-round knockout tournament. Each of regional zones was divided into four groups. Group I and Group II played knockout tournaments. Group III and IV played round-robin tournaments with promotion and relegation. Participation and Performance of Ecuador in the 2000 Davis Cup
Ecuador at the 2000 Davis Cup played 1st Round, 2nd Round matches. On 6th February Ecuador played matches against Colombia. In these matches, Ecuador team showed wonderful performance and defeated Colombia by 5-0. L.Morejon of Ecuador defeated E.Rincon of Colombia. In the matches N.Lapentti of Ecuador defeated P.Gonzalez of Colombia. In the A.Gomez and N.Lapentti of Ecuador defeated R.Tolles and P.Gonzalez of Colombia. In the fourth match, G.Lapentti of Ecuador defeated R.Tolles in the sets by 7-6 and 6-1. In the fifth match, L.Morejon of Ecuador defeated P.Gonzalez of Colombia. Thus Ecuador advanced to the second round.
On 8th April Peru team was against in the second round. These matches were contested between 7th April and 9th April. In the 2nd round matches, Ecuador team again showed good performance. Out of the five matches Peru won 2 and Ecuador won 3 matches. Thus by winning two matches they advanced to the Qualifying Round.
On 16th July Australia was against Ecuador team. In this matches also Ecuador defeated Great Britain by 3-2. Thus Ecuador team consistently put up dominant performance in the 2000 Davis Cup.
