In the 2000 Davis Cup total of 135 nations had participated. The zones were Americas Zone, Asia/Oceania Zone and Europe/Africa Zone. The World Group consisted of a four-round knockout tournament. The countries that participated in the Davis Cup along with Chinese Taipei in the group II of the Asia/Oceania zone were as follows: Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Pakistan and Philippines.
Participation and Performance of Chinese Taipei in the 2000 Davis Cup
Total of eight nations competed including Chinese Taipei in the 2000 Davis Cup. On the 6th February Chinese Taipei played matches against Kazakhstan of the 1st round. Chinese Taipei showed wonderful performance and defeated team of Kazakhstan by 4-1. By winning these matches Chinese Taipei advanced to the 2nd Round that is Semifinals.
In the semifinal matches Chinese Taipei was against Pakistan. These matches were played from 7th April to 9th April. These matches were won by the Chinese Taipei against Pakistan by 3-2. The details of these matches were as follows: Bing-Chao Lin of Taipei defeated Asim Shafik of Pakistan in the sets by 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0. Aisam Qureshi of Pakistan defeated Chia-Yen Tsai. In the doubles match, Aisam Qureshi with Ahmed Wahla of Pakistan defeated Wei-Jen Cheng and Bing-Chao Lin of Chinese Taipei. In the fourth match of this round, Bing-Chao Lin of Taipei defeated Aisam Qureshi of Pakistan in the sets by 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 and 6-3. Chia-Yen Tsai of Chinese Taipei made wonderful performance and defeated Aqueel Khan in the straight sets of 6-0, 6-3, and 6-3. Thus taking lead by 1 point team of Chinese Taipei advanced to finals that is 3rd round. The third round matches were played from 6th Oct to 8th Oct. In this round, Chinese Taipei was against Indonesian team. The details of these matches are as follows:
In this Round team of Chinese Taipei could not show good performance and was defeated by Indonesia by 1-4. The details of the matches are as follows: Suwandi Suwandi of Indonesia defeated Wei-Jen Cheng of Taipei. Hendri-Susilo Pramono of Indonesia defeated Chia-Yen Tsai of Taipei. In the doubles matches, Sulistyo Wibowo and Bonit Wiryawan of Indonesia defeated Wei-Ju Chen and Wei-Jen Cheng of Chinese Taipei. In the fourth match, Suwandi Suwandi of Indonesia defeated Chia-Yen Tsai of Taipei. In the fifth match, Wei-Jen Cheng of Chinese Taipei defeated Hendri-Susilo Pramono of Indonesia in the straight sets of 6-4 and 6-2. Thus Chinese Taipei could only win one match of this round.
