In the 2000 Davis Cup total of 135 nations had participated. The zones were Americas Zone, Asia/Oceania Zone and Europe/Africa Zone. The World Group consisted of a four-round knockout tournament. Participation and Performance of Chile in the 2000 Davis Cup
Chile in the 2000 Davis Cup showed good performance. On 6th February Canada played matches against Chile of the 1st Round. In this match Chile defeated Canada team by 4-1. The first match of this round was won by F.Gonzalez of Chile against S. Leareau in the sets by 2-6, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 and 6-1. The second match was won by N.Massu defeating S.Larose in the sets by 6-0, 6-7(2) and 3-1. In the third match, F.Gonzalez and N.Massu of Chile defeated S.Lareau and J.Robichaud of Canada in the sets by 6-4, 6-4, 2-6 and 6-2. The Fourth match was won by F. Niemeyer of Canada beating A.Garcia of Chile in the sets by 4-6, 6-1 and 7-6(6). The fifth match was won by H.Gamonal of Chile defeating S.Larose of Canada in the sets by 6-2 and 7-5. On 9th April Argentina team played matches against Chile of the semifinal round. The semifinal matches were played from 7th April to 9th April. In the semifinal matches, Chile defeated Argentina in the matches by lead of 2-0. In first match of semifinal was won by Marcelo Rios of Chile defeating Hernan Gumy of Argentina. The second match was won by Nicolas Massu of Chile beating Mariano Zabaleta of Argentina. On the16th July Morocco defeated Chile by Walkover in the 1st Round matches.
