These matches were contested from 21st Jul to 23rd Jul at the Jarry Park Centre. Canada team defeated Argentina by 4-1. In the 1st round play-off matches Daniel Nestor defeated Juan Iqnacio Chela of Argentina in the sets by 6-3, 7-6 and 6-3. Aqustin Calleri of Argentina defeated Sebastien Lareau in the sets by 6-3, 6-2 and 6-3. In the third match Sebastien Lareau and Daniel Nestor of Canada defeated Martin Garcia and Martin Rodriguez of Argentina. The fourth match of this round was won by Sebastien Lareau of Canada against Juan Iqnacio Chela. Daniel Nestor of Canada defeated Aqustin Calleri in the straight sets by 6-3 and 6-2. Thus Canada team advanced to the 1st Round at the 2000 Davis Cup.
In the first Round matches that were contested from 4th Feb to 6th Feb at the Union T.C, Vina del Mar, Chile. In the first round Canada was against Chile. In the first match of this round, Fernando Gonzalez of Chile defeated Sebastien Laureau of Canada. In the second match Nicolas Massu of Chile defeated Simon Larose of Canada In the third match Fernando Gonzalez and Nicolas Massu of Chile defeated Sebastien Laureau and Jocelyn Robichaud of Canada in the sets by 6-4, 6-4, 2-6 and 6-2. In the fourth match Frederic Niemeyer of Canada defeated Adrian Garcia of Chile in the sets by 4-6, 6-1 and 7-6. In the fifth match of the 1st round Hermes Gamonal of Chile defeated Simon Larose of Canada in the straight sets of 6-2 and 7-5. Thus in the first round matches Canada team lost 4 matches and were able to win only one match against Chile and were out of the competition.
