In the 2000 Davis Cup total of 135 nations had participated. The zones were Americas Zone, Asia/Oceania Zone and Europe/Africa Zone. The World Group consisted of a four-round knockout tournament. Participation and Performance of Cameroon in the 2000 Davis Cup
Cameroon played three robin round matches. The first match of robin round match was played on 16th February against Mauritius. Mauritius team defeated Cameroon by 3-0 in Ghana. In this matches Bourgault du Coudray of Mauritius defeated P.Otolo-Metomo of Cameroon in the sets by 6-1 and 6-4. K.Patel of Mauritius defeated L.Kemajou in the sets by 6-3 and 6-3. J.Bourgault du Coudray and K.Patel of Mauritius defeated L.Ondobo and P.Otolo-Metomo of Cameroon in the sets by 6-2 and 6-1.
The second match of the round robin was played on 17th February against Azerbaijan. In this matches Cameroon team defeated Azerbaijan team by 3-0. In the first match P.Otolo-Metomo of Cameroon defeated N.Ramazanov of Azerbaijan in the sets by 6-1 and 6-2. In the second match L.Kemajou of Cameroon defeated E.Agaev in the sets by 6-4 and 6-1. A.Adoum and L.Kemajou of Cameroon defeated T.Rahimov and F.Shirinov in the straight sets by 6-0 and 6-1.
The third round robin matches were lost by Cameroon team. They were defeated by team of Ghana by score 0-3. The first round matches of 5th to 8th play off were played on 19th February against Sudan team. In the first round matches A.Adoum of Cameroon defeated W.Noureldin of Sudan in the straight sets of 6-4 and 6-3. In the second match of 1st round L.Ondobo of Cameroon defeated G.El Sadig of Sudan in the sets by 6-3, 0-6 and 10-8. In the third match of the first round A.Adoum and L.Ondobo of Cameroon defeated G.El Sadig and W.Noureldin in the sets by 6-4 and 6-4. On 20th February Cameroon team defeated Azerbaijan by 2-1 team in the finals of 5th to 8th play off matches. Thus Cameroon team at the 2000 Davis Cup still needs improvement in the game to stand in the international competitions.
