Bulgaria at the 2000 Davis Cup

Introduction

Davis cup is largest international team event in men’s tennis. Davis cup is run by international tennis federation and is contested between the teams of competing countries in the knock out format. Every year, 16 countries compete for Davis cup as a part of elite world group and the other nations are divided in regional zones which are further divided into four groups.The 2000 Davis Cup was the 89th edition of the tournament, 16 teams competed in the World Group and the total was 135 teams including other groups. Out of these 58 were in the Europe Zone, 30 in the Asia Zone and 30 in the American Zone.

 
Bulgaria at the 2000 Davis Cup took part in Euro/Africa Zone group II. 5th to 6th February saw the first round matches while the final took place from 8th to 10th December at the Palau Sant Jordi stadium, Barcelona, Spain. Bulgaria at the 2000 Davis Cup competed in the Euro/Africa Zone. Bulgaria was included in the group II. The team of Bulgaria at the Cup was as follows:

The countries that participated in the Davis Cup along with Bulgaria in the group II of the Euro/Africa Zone were as follows: Cote d Lovire, Croatia, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Slovenia and Turkey.

Participation and Performance of Brunei in the 2000 Davis Cup

The first set of matches at the Davis Cup that Bulgaria played was against Greece. These games were held in the Levski T.C, Sofia, Bulgaria. Bulgaria players tried their best and gave a tough fight to the players from Greece. But out of the total 5 matches played against Greece, only 2 were won by the Bulgaria while 3 were won by the Greece’s players. In this match I.Traykov of Bulgaria defeated S.Peppas of Greece in round1, O.Stanoytchev of Bulgaria defeated V.Mazarakis of Greece in round 2, S.Peppas of Greece defeated O.Stanoytchev of Bulgaria in round 4, Bulgaria, and V.mazarakis of Greece defeated M.Vellev of Bulgaria in round 5. The second match that Bulgaria played was arranged with Israel on 21 July 2000.In this match Israel defeated Bulgaria in 3 out of total 5 events played. Here H.Levy of Israel defeated M. Velev of Bulgaria in round 1, I.Traykov of Bulgaria defeated L.Mor of Israel in round 2, H.Levy of Israel defeated I.Traykov of Bulgaria round 4and L.Mor of Israel defeated T.Enev of Bulgaria in round 5
