Azerbaijan at the 1997 Davis Cup

Introduction

The Davis cup was the grandest competition between national teams in men’s tennis. The 1997 Davis Cup was the 86th edition of this competition. Group IV was inserted to the regional zones. There was promotion and relegation between this zone and Group III. Altogether, 127 teams took part in the tournament. Azerbaijan at the 1997 Davis Cup took part at the zonal level. Azerbaijan took part in the Davis Cup for the first time in 1996. The Azerbaijan Davis Cup team represents Azerbaijan in Davis Cup tennis competition. The team is governed by the Azerbaijan Tennis Federation. Currently, the country competes in the Europe / Africa Zone of Group IV. The country’s best performance is third in Group III in 2003.

Azerbaijan at the 1997 Davis Cup took part in Venue II of the Group IV in the Euro / African Zone. The other teams in this venue were Benin, Congo, Cyprus, Tunisia and Zambia.
