Formerly known as the International Lawn Tennis Challenge, the Davis Cup actually started as a challenge between Great Britain and United States. This tennis showdown was conceived in the year 1899 but the match was played in the year 1900. Thus this year marked the beginning of the Davis Cup. This tournament became the largest annual international event that is held in the sport of tennis gradually. This tournament is governed by the international Tennis Federation, which frames most of the rules of this game. There were a total of 115 teams that participated in this year of the tournament.
