Davis Cup found its origins in a tennis showdown that was set between Great Britain and United States. Formerly known as the International Lawn Tennis Challenge, the Davis Cup was started in the year 1900. This tennis showdown was conceived in the year 1899 but the match was played in the year 1900. Gradually this game spread to other parts of the world also. Therefore nations from all over the world started taking part in this game increasingly.
