Introduction
Four of the American tennis players and also the members of the Harvard University took the first step towards making the Davis Cup tournament happen. The tournament was named as ‘Davis Cup’ after one of the members which was Dwight Davis. The competition was usually contested between the Americans and the British but then eventually most of the nations started giving overwhelming support to the contest. The Davis Cup was earlier known as the International Lawn Tennis Challenge before the year 1945. Incidentally, the governing body too is known as the International Tennis Federation (ITF). The year 1992 saw the 81st version of these games. Overall, 92 teams had participated that year. Formally known as Rhodesia, Zimbabwe at the 1992 Davis cup saw active support of the people of Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe started participating in the Davis cup since the year 1963. In the first round Zimbabwe competed against Ghana and won hands down with a score of 4-1. Advancing further, Cote D’lvoire had to bear the brunt from Zimbabwe as the Zimbi’s again won the quarter finals with a 4-1 maintaining a victory. The performance was worth acknowledgement until the team Zimbabwe made it to the Semi Finals.
