Introduction
The Davis Cup is the leading tennis tournament being held. It is the only international tennis tournament held between teams fielded by different nations and not individual players. This is considered as the largest team-sporting event being held annually. The organizing body of the tournament is the International Tennis Federation. The tournament was the brainchild of four members from the Harvard University. One of them Dwight Davis went on to solely sponsor the first tournament. The tournament was first held between United States and Great Britain in the year 1900. Formerly the tournament was being known as International Lawn Tennis Challenge but later on it was renamed after the first champion of the tournament Dwight Davis. The tournament is popular till date and still played on the knock out format. The 1992 Davis Cup was the 81st edition of the event.
