Introduction
In the year 1899 four members of the Harvard University Tennis Team came up with idea of challenging the British. Then the Lawn Tennis Association approved this idea and so Dwight Davis went on to designs a tournament format. Hence for the first time there was a tennis match which was played between United States and Great Britain in 1900. The tournament was named The International Lawn Tennis Challenge and in the year 1945 it was renamed as The Davis Cup following the demise of Dwight Davis. United States and Australia are the two teams have won this tournament for 31 and 28 times respectively. The 1992 Davis Cup was 81st edition of the most important tournament in the men’s tennis. It was for the first time that there was one more group added in all the zones. A total of 92 teams participated in the tournament. Philippines at the 1992 Davis Cup was one of the participants.

Philippines at the 1992 Davis Cup was one of the participants in the Asia/Oceania group 1 play-offs along with South South Korea, Indonesia, India, Chinese Taipei and New Zealand. In the first round of the play-offs Philippines had to play Japan in their home grounds. Philippines defeated Japan by three games to two. After wining in the play-off match they had to play Indonesia in the first round of the same zone. This match was also played at the same venue but this time Philippines got defeated by four games to one. So that loss could do no better to Philippines as they remained in the same group in the 1993 Davis Cup.
