Introduction
The Davis Cup is one of the significant and most popular events in men’s tennis world, introduced by yesteryear tennis stalwart Dwight F. Davis. It was renamed after him as a mark of respect to Dwight Davis’ contribution to the tournament. Initially, there were competitive matches held only between the United States and Great Britain. However, by the passage of time other teams started taking participation in its fold. The countries like France, Belgium, Austria and Australasia were the ones which joined themselves next to the initial countries. The United States and Australia have won the titles most times to date. Hong Kong China has failed to get a breakthrough in the Asia/Oceania Group I, wherefrom it played on four occasions. Hong Kong China at the 1992 Davis Cup played through Asia/Oceania Zone Group II. With its superior performance level in this year’s tournament, it got promoted to the Group I of 1993. In the final tournament match between the United States and Switzerland, the United States became victorious; whose play ruled over Switzerland.
