Introduction

Davis Cup tennis tournament began in 1900 between the United Sates and Great Britain. It began as a challenge between the two teams. Dwight F. Davis and three members from Harvard University put forward the idea of such type of tournament. Dwight F. Davis designed tournament structure and even spent money from his own pocket to purchase silver trophy for the tournament. Dwight F. Davis managed to guide the United State to 3-0 victory over Great Britain in the first tie of the tournament in 1900 in Boston, Massachusetts. Today ITF governs the functioning of the tournament and lays down rules and regulations. At Davis Cup World Group consists of top 16 seeded nations while other nations participate in the tournament from regional zones. There are three Regional Zones at Davis Cup namely Americas Zone, Asia/Oceania Zone and Euro/Africa Zone. Dominican Republic at the 1992 Davis Cup displayed poor performance.

Venezuela with their scintillating performance left Dominican Republic in dust. Venezuela delivered crushing 5-0 triumph over Dominican Republic and made them to play in Play Off round to save their Group 2 place. Losing at the hands of Venezuela by 0-5 Dominican Republic had their Group 2 place at stake in play off round. They exhibited high class performance and managed to beat Barbados by 5-0 in play off round.
