Introduction

Dwight F. Davis along with his three friends from Harvard University conceived the idea of Davis Cup in 1899. Actual tournament was materialized in 1900. Initially it was known as International lawn Tennis Challenge, in 1945 when Dwight Davis died the tournament was renamed Davis Cup. The first clash of the tournament was held between the United States and Great Britain in 1900 in Boston, Massachusetts. The 1992 Davis Cup was the 81st edition of the tournament. Colombia at the 1992 Davis Cup was placed in America Zone Group 2 along with Bahamas, Barbados, Dominican Republic, Eastern Caribbean, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.

Jordon due managed to unnerve Barbados and put pressure right from the first day. J. Cortes effortlessly won first singles with score 6-2, 6-1, 6-0 and took early lead, A. Jordon did not leave behind and grabbed 7-6(8), 6-3, 6-2 win. By dint of determined performance Colombia managed to win all the rest of the matches and defeated Barbados by a huge margin of 5-0. With confidence boosting 5-0 victory Colombia advanced into Semifinals. In Semifinals Colombian side were put to test by Venezuela. Venezuela tried their best and managed to return Colombian aggressive serve. In a close fight both the teams won 2 matches and equaled the scored. Colombia put in hundred percent efforts in the last match to save the tie but Venezuela did not allow them to succeed and Colombia suffered disappointing 2-3 defeat.
