Davis cup tournament Tennis is regarded as the premier international tennis event that is held only for Mens. This tournament found its origins in a challenge between United States and Great Britain. The idea of this tennis showdown was conceived in the year 1899 but was materialized in the year 1900. So, this year marked the beginning of the Davis cup tournament Tennis. This tournament was formerly known as the International Lawn Tennis Challenge, but was renamed as the Davis cup tournament Tennis after the death of Dwight F. Davis in the year 1945. He played a major role in the development in this game. He actually designed the format of this game.

 

The Davis cup tournament Tennis also follows a knock out policy like the other Grand Slam tournaments but the format is completely different from the other tennis tournaments. The 1973 Davis Cup was the 62nd edition of this tournament. The finals of this tournament were held at the Public Auditorium located in Cleveland which is situated in the United States.

1973 Davis Cup saw the participation of 53 teams from all over the world. Out of these teams there were a total of 31 nations that participated in the Europe Zone and there were 12 teams that participated from the America Zone.

There were a total of 10 nations that participated in the Eastern Zone. In the America Zone United States qualified to the America Inter zone and from South American zone Chile advanced to the America Inter zone final.

In the America Inter Zone final United States defeated Chile very easily by a score line of 4-0. In the Eastern Zone the final was contested between India and Australia.

Australia defeated India and completely dominated the round by a score line of 4-0. In the Europe Zone Czechoslovakia qualified to the Inter Zonal rounds from the Zone A of Europe Zone. From Zone B Romania advanced to the Inter Zonal rounds after it defeated Soviet Union.

The Inter Zonal final was contested between Australia and United States. Australia defeated United States by a score line of 5-0.
