1967 Davis Cup

The Davis cup has emerged as one of the prestigious tournaments in men’s tennis. The 1967 Davis Cup was the 56th edition of this Cup. Altogether, 48 teams took part in this tournament, out of which 32 were from the Europe Zone, 7 from the American Zone and 9 from the Eastern Zone.

In the Eastern Inter-Zonal final, India defeated Japan 4-1. In the Americas Inter Zonal Final, the United States was defeated by Ecuador. The score was 3-2. In the Zone A final of the Europe Zone, South Africa defeated Brazil 5-0.

In the Zone B final, Spain defeated the Soviet Union with a score of 4-1. In the Inter Zonal matches, Spain and Ecuador played the first round at the Real Club de Tenis de Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain. These matches were held from 21st September to 23rd September on clay courts. Ecuador was defeated by Spain 0-5.

In another match, at Barcelona, Spain, South Africa played against India between 10th November and 12th November on clay courts. South Africa defeated India 5-0 and played the Final round against Spain at Ellis Park, Johannesburg, South Africa on hard surface. The matches were played between 30th November to 3rd December.

Spain defeated South Africa 3-2 in the Finals. The Challenge Round of the 1967 Davis Cup was played on grass courts at the Milton courts, Brisbane, Australia. The matches were played from 26th December to 28th December. Australia won this round 4-1.
