Introduction

Formerly known as the International Lawn Tennis Challenge, the Davis Cup Tennis Tournament is the largest international event that is held in the sport of tennis. This tournament is held every year and is regarded as one of the most leading tennis tournaments for men. This tournament started as a challenge between the United States and Great Britain. This idea was conceived in the year 1899 by four tennis players of the Harvard University. However this idea was materialized in the year 1900. So this year was marked the beginning of the Davis Cup. .

 

The 1958 Davis Cup was the 47th edition of this tournament. The final of 1958 Davis Cup was held at the Milton Courts in Brisbane which is situated in Australia.

Out of these there were 24 nations that participated from the Europe Zone and there were 7 nations that took part in the America Zone. There were 5 nations that took part in the Eastern Zone.

In the America Zone final the final was contested between Argentina and the United States. United States defeated Argentina by a score line of 5-0.

Philippines competed against Ceylon in the Eastern zone final. It completely dominated the scenario by defeating Ceylon by a score line of 5-0.

In the Europe Zone final Italy competed against Great Britain. Italy defeated Great Britain by 4-1 and qualified to the Inter Zone finals.

In the Inter Zone Finals United States competed against Italy. United States completely dominated the round by defeating Italy. The score line was 5-0.

United States then qualified to the main round that is the Challenge Round. It competed against Australia who was the defending champion. United States defeated Australia in a very close match by a score line of 3-2.
