Mexico at the 1956 Davis Cup

The Davis Cup is run by the International Tennis Federation and the competition began in 1900. This tournament was known as the International Lawn Tennis Challenge and was renamed into Davis Cup after the death of Dwight Davis in 1945. Till date the most successful performer are the players from the United States by winning 31 tournaments, and finishing second 18 times. Mexico at the 1956 Davis Cup was one of the participants. This tournament like other Grand Slam events also follows the knock out format. However in its format it is different from other tennis tournaments. This tournament is controlled by International Tennis Federation. The 1954 Davis Cup is the 41st edition of this tournament. In this year of the tournament there were a total of 28 nations. Davis Cup is run by the International Tennis Federation and the participants were the players from the competing countries. The four members of the Harvard University tennis team started the tournament which was conceived in the year 1899 as to Challenge between Britain and the United States.

Mexico in the 1956 Davis Cup was defeated by the United States in The American Zone. In the first both the teams got a bye and were qualified for the semifinals at Mexico City. In this match out of the five matches played between the Mexico and Brazil, Mexico players whose performance was excellent won 4 matches and Brazil won only 1 match. Thus Mexico could reach the finals and played the final match with United States but lost the match by only winning in 1 match out of the five matches played between them.
