Mexico At the 1955 Davis Cup

Introduction

The 1955 Davis Cup was the 44th edition of the most important tennis event in the world. The Davis Cup is the clash of many national tennis teams around the world. The member nations of the ITF participate in the Davis Cup. The salient feature of the 1955 Davis Cup was that the Eastern Zone was revived after a gap of a year to facilitate the participation of the Asian national teams. There were as many as 34 national teams out of which 24 came form the Europe Zone, 7 from the Americas zone and 3 from the Eastern zone. Mexico at the 1955 Davis Cup participated through the Americas zone and the Mexican Davis Cup team represents Mexico in the Davis Cup. The governing body for the team is the Federación Mexicana de Tenis. The Mexican team had been the runners up at the Davis Cup in 1962 and their first appearance was in the year 1924. The Mexican team was thus mature enough for the Davis Cup participation in 1955.

Performance of Mexico at the 1955 Davis Cup

Mexico at the 1955 Davis Cup played its first match against the mighty team of Australia and that matches were conducted in Chicago, Illinois, in the United States and the matches were carried out on the clay courts. The Mexican despite its experience failed to win any single match against Australia and it got defeated in the first round. Indeed it was not an easy task to win against the mighty Australian team but the Mexican team perhaps lacked the spirit of victory and lost all the matches.

Here’s a summary of the performance of Mexico at the 1955 Davis Cup

The performance of Mexico at the 1955 Davis Cup was really dismal and the experience of being the runners up at the Davis Cup proved insufficient for winning the matches against their rivals. The Mexican team got eliminated right in the first round of the Davis Cup which was not very fitting for the former runners up at the Davis Cup.
