Davis Cup is managed by International Tennis Federation (ITF). The first match was played between United States and Great Britain in 1900 at Boston, Massachusetts. Davis cup is one of the knock-out type prestigious tournaments in the tennis field. The initial name was International Lawn Tennis Championship. It gained the name of one of the finest tennis players in the tennis history Dwight F. Davis after his death in 1945. The four members of the Harvard University framed the structure for this tournament in the year 1899. Initially there were only two zones namely America zone and Europe Zone. But from 1955, the contestants from Asia started participating in the tournament, so another zone Eastern Zone was added to the list. Finland at the 1955 Davis Cup was one of the participants. 1955 Davis Cup was 44th tournament.

It was defeated by Austria in the very first round of the Europe Zone with a score line of 0-5 score. At the early round of the tournament it had to face very difficult challenge with Austria.
