Sweden managed to get a bye in the very first round itself as it was quarterfinalist in the 1953. In the 2nd round Sweden faced Egypt. They best Egypt hollow in five straight matches. It was a cake-walk for Sweden as they again managed a five match victory against France and qualified to the Inter-zonal final against the US.
