| Introduction
The Davis Cup is the premier international tennis tournament held annually only for men. Davis Cup was formerly known as the International Lawn Tennis Challenge. The tournament was renamed as the Davis Cup after the death of Dwight F. Davis in 1945. He was a prominent personality amongst the four tennis players of the Harvard University. This tournament was designed by him. He also took part in the first tournament that was played between United States and Great Britain. This tournament was conceived in the year 1899 and was finalized in the year 1900 when the tournament was actually played. Though in the beginning stages this tournament was dominated by only certain nations but after 1974 there were other nations also winning the tournament. 1953 Davis Cup was the 42nd edition of this tournament. The finals of this tournament were played at Kooyong Stadium which is situated in Melbourne.

1953 Davis Cup saw the participation of some more nations again this year. This time there were a total of 29 nations that took part in the tournament. Out of these 29 nations, 22 teams were competing under the Europe zone, 6 teams were competing under the Americas zone and there was only one nation in the Eastern Zone i.e. India. The tournament of Davis Cup was broadly classified into certain categories like the Americas Zone, Europe Zone, Eastern Zone and Inter Zonal Zone. The entire finalists from the respective zones compete in the Inter Zonal rounds. The finalist of the Inter Zonal Finals competes against each other and the finalist is to compete in the final event of the Challenge Round where the Inter Zonal Final winner competes against the previous year champion of the Cup. This year United States won the Americas Zone finals. Belgium won the European Zone Finals. In the Inter Zonal finals Belgium competed against United States. United States defeated Belgium by a score line of 4-1. Then United States was qualified to compete with Australia in the Challenge Round. However this time also Australia took away the title by defeating United States by 3-2.

1953 Davis Cup was again won by Australia. Despite of all the efforts of United States it failed. However the events in this year of the tournament were very contesting and exciting too.
