Introduction

Australian Open is the world's first Grand Slam event amongst all the Grand Slam events that are held in a year. It is held in the month of January each year at the Melbourne Park. This tournament was started in 1905. Like the other three Grand Slam events this tournament also features the Mens Singles, Womens Singles, Mens Doubles, Womens Doubles and the Mixed Doubles. Formerly known as the Australian Championships this event was also contested by top-ranked amateur players until the advent of Open Tennis in the year 1968.
