The Australian Open Tennis Tournament is held in January. It is held at the Melbourne Park. The two main courts are the Rod Laver Arena and the Vodafone arena. These have movable roofs which can be closed in case of rain or extreme heat. This is the only Grand Slam Tournament that can have indoor play.

In the Women's Doubles, Arantxa Sanchez Vicario of Spain and Helena Sukova of Czech Republic defeated Mary Joe Fernandez and Zina Garrison of the United States by 6-4, 7-6.

In the Mixed Doubles, JMark Woodforde of Australia and Nicole Provis defeated Arantxa Sanchez Vicario of Spain and Todd Woodbridge of Australia by 6-3, 4-6, 11-9.

In The 1992 Australian Open Tennis Tournament, Jim Courier and Stefan Edberg won one set each initially, by the same margin. However, later Courier won 2 straight sets and won the match.

Women's Singles final was a one sided. Monica Seles completely dominated Mary Joe Fernandez and won the match.
