Origin of Tennis Sports
The word Tennis has originated from the French term “tenez," which means "hold”. At the outset, the kings and nobles played this Tennis sports . The authentic tennis sports . originated in the 12th century in France, popularly known as jeu de paume. The players used their hands to hit the ball and this game was commonly played outdoors, in enclosed spaces and also in courtyards.
Growth of the Tennis Sports
The Italian tennis lovers initiated a new approach to the tennis sports by wearing a glove to protect their hands and hit the ball harder.
The first Tennis racket was surfaced in the 14th century and was made of solid wood and a short handle. King Charles V built the first known indoor court at the Louvre in 1368. Court tennis reached its greatest peak in the late 16th and early 17th century. Court tennis briefly flourished in England during the late 19th and early 20th century.
Real tennis sports was actually very different than the game we know today. It was played indoors, in large galleries and points were won according to how the ball was played off of the gallery walls. It was in the 19th Century that Lawn Tennis Sports emerged and began to gain popularity. Courts were built in many famous country houses and the first tennis clubs began to appear.

The growth of tennis continued and during the 1927 Championship, people could listen to the first ever radio broadcast of a Tennis Tournaments. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s the tennis sports was dominated by the new legion of international players and crowds became captivated by the likes of Bjorn Borg, Jimmy Connors, and John McEnroe. Today, tennis which once was a restricted sport for Kings, is a world-class competitive sport attracting millions of players and fans all around the world.
