Hockey is one of the popular sports of sports world that enjoys special place in the hearts of millions of hockey fans. Played with hockey stick, which has a curve at the bottom, and a synthetic ball, hockey matches are both popular as an individual sport and at various sporting events like Commonwealth Games and at Asian Games.

The history of hockey is very old. It is believed that hockey matches were even played 4000 years ago in Egypt and there are ample evidences to show that hockey was played in Ethiopia around 1000 B.C. According to the history of hockey, modern hockey was originated in England during the 18th century.

And since then, hockey matches were played in various hockey tournaments. Hockey, which was already popular in various regions, tasted the first international limelight in 1908 when it was part of the London Olympic Games. Thereafter, there has been no looking back for hockey.

Hockey is played on all the five continents. According to International Hockey Federation (FIH) there are around 118 countries that are part of FIH.

Hockey is a team game. Each hockey team consist of 11 members; while a hockey match is played for 70 minutes. In hockey, the sole of aim both the team is to put the ball with the help of hockey sticks into their opponent's goalpost.
