Pakistan beat Scotland by 51 runs

12 Sep, 2007, Durban: Pakistan began their Twenty20 cricket campaign by defeating Scotland by 51 runs in the Group D match here at the Kingsmead Stadium on Wednesday.

Batting first, Pakistan had piled up a score of 171, losing nine wickets in 20 overs, for Scotland. In reply, Scotland cricket team were bowled out for 120 runs in 19.5 overs.

Earlier, Scotland cricket team had won the toss and elected to field first. Pakistan cricket team had a shaky start losing its opening batsman Imran Nazir for his personnel score of 4 runs. Pakistan cricket team that time had scored 9 runs. Once, Md. Hafeez came in at one down; things became steady for them; and they made 24 runs when Salman Butt was caught by Haq off Blain’s delivery. He made 13 runs.
 
Most Pakistan’s batsmen contributed with runs. However, the standout batsman was Younis Khan, who made 41 runs of 29 balls hitting three fours and two sixes. Shahid Afridi, who was declared as the man of match for his all-round performance, made 22 runs and took four valuable wickets for his team.

Umar Gul also picked up four wickets for Pakistan; while Md. Asif and Md. Hafeez got one wicket each.

Scotland cricket team, too, had a shaky start losing its first wicket at 9 runs—Pakistan too had lost its wicket at that score. RR Watson was the first man for Scotland to have return to pavilion at a personnel score of 2 runs. He was caught by Md. Hafeez of Gul’s bowling.

Their main batsmen, made runs in single digit, were not able to play negotiate the spin balls of Shahid Afridi, who grabbed four wickets. However, their lower end batsmen managed to post some runs on board.

Scotland’s first six batsmen made just 55 runs; where as their last five batsmen made a significant 52 runs and they were lucky to get 13 extra runs.

For Scotland cricket team, CM Right bagged highest three wickets followed by Blain, Nel and R.M. Haq who grabbed two wickets each.
