Founded in 1932, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) is the world governing body of the basketball. FIBA's original name was in French that read Federation International de Basketball.
FIBA has been organizing many coveted cups-some of them are the FIBA World Championship both for men and women, FIBA World League for women, and Borislav Stankovic Cup are some of the major basketball tournaments that FIBA organizes.
National Basketball Association
The reason behind the stupendous success of basketball is definitely the NBA matches. The NBA is the professional basketball league of the US, which was formed in 1949. Initially, NBA league was only for men, but later in 1997, it also included women-with the formation of Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA).
Many internationally acclaimed basketball star players have evolved out of this NBA league. Basic Basketball Rules
Some of the basic basket rules and regulations of basketball that all the sports lovers should know to understand and play the game better.
Scoring system: Generally, there are three types of points that are awarded--1 point, 2 points, and 3 points.
One point is awarded when a player gets a free chance to shoot the ball into the basket. These free throws are given when a foul is occurred.
Two points are given when a player shoots the ball into the basket during the course of a match.
Three points are given when a player shoots the ball into the basket from outside the arc that is made near the basket post.
Travelling: This foul is said to be occurred when a player takes more than two steps without bouncing the ball on the court.
Double dribble: A player does a double dribble when he bounces the ball with two hands or starts dribbling after being stationery for a while with the ball.
