Colonists settled themselves on the neighboring island of Nevis (Spanish, ‘snow’) in the year 1698. British ownership of the islands was confirmed by The Treaty of Paris (1783) and this flourished through the import of the slave labor from Africa on sugar plantations. The productive sugar industry helped Nevis to be known as ‘Queen of the Caribees’. St. Kitts and Nevis was joined by Britain in the year 1918 along with Anguilla and the Virgin Islands. Self-government was gained by the islands in the year 1967 and it was only on September 19th, 1983 when St. Kitts and Nevis became completely independent.

The common team has won 4 first class titles and six one day matches totaling to 10 titles in all. Their last title was in the year 1997-98.
