Grenada, West Indies is an island nation located in the southeastern Caribbean Sea. To its south are the Trinidad and Tobago and to the north are Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Grenada is the second smallest independent country in the Western Hemisphere. The country is divided into 7 parishes. They are Saint Andrew, Saint David, Saint George, Saint John, Saint Mark and Saint Patrick. The islands are of volcanic origin and have very rich soil.

History
It was in the year 1498 when Christopher Columbus viewed the islands. Colonization was ferociously resisted by Carib and in the year 1650 France founded St. George’s. Control was gained by Britain in 1783. Slaves were brought from Africa by British to make them work on sugar plantations. Slave revolt was led by Julian Fedon in the year 1795. It was only in the year 1877 when Grenada became a British colony. Independence was gained by Grenada in February, 1974. The Prime Minister was Eric M. Gairy and in the year 1979 Gairy was overthrown in a coup. Keith Mitchell was the Prime Minister from 1995.

The National Stadium is rebuilt to seat nearly 20,000 spectators. It is planned that it will host six matches of the Second Stage, Super Eight series during the 2007 World Cup. This ground became the 84th Test venue when the West Indies played against New Zealand in the year 2002. It lies adjacent to the football and athletics ground and has changed the face of Grenadian cricket. Devon Smith, who is the Grenada and Windward Island opener, was not considered for the West Indies squad for the 2007 World Cup.
