Dominica, which is officially known as Commonwealth of Dominica is called the Natures Island for its lush rain forests and its serene rivers. Basically Dominica is an Island nation that is located in the Caribbean Sea. Many assume that Dominica is a part of the Dominican Republic, another Caribbean nation, which would be a mistake. Dominica in Latin means Sunday the day when Christopher Columbus discovered the Island. The Islands surges out from the sea with its soaring peaks that seems to be the courting the heavens. The flora and the fauna of the mountains create swaths of verdant landscape. Other geographical features of the Island covers the residue of the Caribbean ring of fire that created the island, the hot springs, the numerous waterfalls, springs and rivers, the valleys of steaming earth and the boiling lake the second largest of its kind in the world. All this makes Dominica a geothermal wonder.
History

Dominica being an island nation, its sports culture revolves around water sports. Scuba diving, snorkeling and kayaking. However the game of baseball is very famous among the locals. The roots of basketball in Dominica can be traced back to the year 1866 when some of the American sailors stationed here to acquaint the locals with the rules of this game. By the year 1920 the basket was widely accepted as the game of the common people and extremely famous as a competitive event. At present Dominica with its rich heritage of basketball has been one of the competing teams in baseball in the Major League baseball the most popular in the United States.
