Introduction
Amongst the various cricket stadiums that are situated in West Indies, Grenada National Stadium, St. Georges is one of the famous stadiums. This stadium was also formerly known as Queen’s Park stadium. This stadium was established in the year 1999. So one could very well understand that it is a new stadium. There are two famous ends in this stadium. One is known as the River End and the other is known as the D’arbeau End. The home team that plays in this stadium is the Windward Islands.
This stadium is used for various sports. Predominantly it was used for playing football. The capacity of this stadium is 9000 persons. Now this stadium has been chosen for holding some of the matches in the 2007 Cricket World Cup. This stadium has been reconstructed for this purpose only and after the government of Grenada invested a huge amount in this stadium, this has changed the face of Grenadian cricket.
Contests at Grenada National Stadium
As Grenada National Stadium, St. Georges is a new stadium so it has not hosted much Cricket. However, it has hosted quite a decent number of Cricket Games. The first International One-Day match was played on 1999. This match was played between West Indies and Australia. One of the most surprising facts about this stadium is that it has hosted only one Test Match till now. This match was played between West Indies and New Zealand.
Records at this ground
As such there has not been any records set on Grenada National Stadium, St. Georges. This ground is still waiting for some great players to set some of the finest records in the world. As 2007 Cricket World Cup is drawing near so there is a high probability that some records will surely be set in this field.
