Introduction
Zimbabwean Cricket Team first played its Test match against India in 1992 at Harare. Their early performances in Test matches were consistently weak. Though the Team was not strong, it became competitive. Though the performance of Zimbabwe increased in late 1990s, political situation declined in Zimbabwe leading to some implications for national team. They first took part at 1983 World Cup. In 2004, due to political influence in Team’s management 14 players including Heath Streak staged a protest against this political influence. Although agreement was signed with the rebel players, their performance in the Tests did not improve.
On January 18 2006, Zimbabwe decided to suspend playing of Test Cricket temporarily.
World cup achievements
Zimbabwe has not been able to win the World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy.
At the 1999 and 2003 World cup, Zimbabwe finished 5th and 6th position respectively
Zimbabwe however has won ICC Trophy consecutively for 3 times. They won the Trophy in 1982,1986, and 1990. A remarkable feat that no country has achieved.
