In this World Cup, initially Pakistan lost four of the five matches in the first round. However, the fifth match was declared as a no result match due to the rains and so the team advanced in the next rounds. In the semi final, Pakistan defeated the host New Zealand and in the final, played against England to win the prestigious cup. In the 1999 World Cup, Pakistan came second while in the last cup, they were out in the first round itself.
