WORLD CUP OF CRICKET 2007, WEST INDIES

Team England

Team England at the World Cup of Cricket 2007, World Cup Cricket 2007, English cricket team, Sports of World
Introduction
Cricket, one of the most popular sports in the world, owes its origin to England. England gave birth to the Test matches, One day Internationals and also the very recent Twenty20 versions of the game. Thus, England is one of the oldest playing nations in all forms of the game. The first ever test match was played between England and Australia in 1877, while the first One-day international was also played between team England and Australia in 1971. Currently, the England Cricket team represents both England and Wales and operates under the Auspices of England and Wales cricket Board or ECB. England’s performance so far at the world cup has been fairly satisfactory. However, the nation has failed to win the cup even once in its history. England’s performance at the major tournaments including the Ashes however has been mixed and slightly inconsistent.

Team England’s World Cup Performance Stats
Team England has participated in all the world cup tournaments that were held right from their origin in 1975. For the first two world cup tournaments, England performed fairly well. While in 1975, England reached the Semi-finals, in 1979; England managed to be the runners up in the competition. England perked up again in the 1983 World cup, where it reached the semi finals of the tournament. England also managed to be the runners up in the 1987 and 1992 World cup tournaments. This close call, unfortunately for England was not followed by any world cup win. England managed to reach only till the quarterfinals in 1996. The graph for England fell even further in the last two events. England failed to go beyond the first round in both the 1999 and 2003 world cup tournaments. Thus, so far complete success has eluded England at the World cup tournaments that are held every 4 years.

Team England’s 2007 World Cup Performance Preview
Team England is composed of some of the finest players in the world. Both the senior and junior players are fully equipped to steer England towards victory. Also, England currently stands as the seventh successful nation in the top ten nations, which shows its performance till date. There are however a few concerns regarding the consistency and form of some players. However, England is considered to be a strong contender to win the trophy and make a mark at the world cup cricket 2007.
