WORLD CUP OF CRICKET 2007, WEST INDIES |

|
Team Bangladesh |
|
Introduction
The Bangladesh Cricket Board manages the Team Bangladesh. The country is a full member of the International Cricket Council with One day and Test status. It played its maiden test match against India at Dhaka and became the 10th nation in the world to do so. The promotion of Bangladesh to the test status has been marked by controversy. Many held the opinion that the team was very weak to compete against the veterans. That the country lost 31 out of its 34 tests confirmed this ideology. This jinx was eventually broken in the 35th attempt when they won their first test match against Zimbabwe in Chittagong.
Team Bangladesh’s World Cup Performance Stats
Team Bangladesh was not eligible, as it was not an ICC member for the first World Cup held in 1975. For the world cup games held from 1979 to 1996, it did not qualify for the tournaments. In the 1999 World Cup, it recorded 2 wins and 3 losses. With these it acquired 4 points and was ranked 5th in the Group B. It won against Scotland and Pakistan. It was eliminated at the Group stage and did not enter the Super Six. In the 2003 world cup, it registered 5 losses and one match had no result due to rain. So, Bangladesh was at the bottom of the table in Pool B. In a nutshell, the performance of the team has been very uninspiring and unconvincing one.
Team Bangladesh’s 2007 World Cup Performance Preview
Team Bangladesh is part of Group B. The other members of this group are Sri Lanka, India and Bermuda. The matches of Bangladesh will be played in Trinidad & Tobago. In the presence of veteran countries like Sri Lanka and India it is highly unlikely that Bangladesh will be able to overcome all hurdles and enter the Super Eight Series. Only Bermuda is the country with less experience than Bangladesh. Still it remains to be seen if Bangladesh will be able to stage some fight and make the group matches more exciting and riveting ones.
