Introduction
The Cricket World Cup 2007 is one of the most coveted sporting events among the cricketing nations. The world cup cricket had risen above a sporting and has become the stage to salvage national pride. The event is a big hit commercially and has been successful in tapping the frenzy of the spectators through the media and live performance on the ground. The event has moved to the West Indies situated on the Caribbean Sea. The event will see some of the giants of the game flexing their muscle to bring the top cricketing glory back home. This year the number of nations contesting the event has increased from the last world cup. Thus to manage the schedule the matches have been segregated into different level of contest like the 1st Round - Group Stage, 2nd Round – Super 8, Semi Finals, and the Final. The teams have to pass from the elementary stages to reach to the finals.
Groups at the 1st Round - Group Stage
The 1st Round - Group Stage of this world cup is divided among four groups. The first group named Group A consists of Australia, South Africa, Scotland, and Netherlands. The second group namely Group B constitutes of Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, and Bermuda. The third group is being called as Group C contains New Zealand, England, Kenya, and Canada. The fourth group called as Group D is formed of Pakistan, West Indies, Zimbabwe, and Ireland.
Structure of the 1st Round - Group Stage
Each of the teams of each group in the 1st Round - Group Stage will play among each other. There will be six matches held in each of the group. The points will be awarded on the outcome of each of the match according to the standards set by the International Cricket Council. The top two teams of each of the group will advance to the next stage that is 2nd round super eight.
